In Russian, there are two different equivalents for the verb of motion “to go”:
ходить (to go on foot) and ездить (to go by transport).

These two forms (ходить, ездить) are used to express a regular action.

• Я всегда езжу на работу на метро. I always go to work by metro.
• Каждый год мы ездим в Сочи. Every year we go to Sochi. (Sochi is a famous recreation region in Russia)

ходить (on foot)

ты ходишь
он ходит
мы ходим
вы ходите
они ходят

ездить (by transport)
я езжу
ты ездишь
он ездит
мы ездим
вы ездите
они ездят

• Мы всегда ездим в Сочи на машине. We always go to Sochi by car.

• - Как ты ездишь в офис - на такси или на метро?

- Я езжу в офис на метро.

• Я никогда не езжу на трамвае. I never go by a tramway.

***Notice that we use another couple of verbs as equivalents for “to be going”:
идти (to be going on foot) and ехать (to be going by transport).

• Смотри! Анна едет на велосипеде. Look! Anna’s driving a bicycle.

- Привет, Андрей! Сейчас я еду в фитнес-клуб.

самока́т - a scooter

электросамока́т - an electric scooter

сегвей - a segway

велосипе́д - a bicycle

мотоци́кл - a motorcycle

маши́на - a car

такси́ - a taxi

авто́бус - a bus

метро́ - a metro

трамва́й - a tramway

по́езд - a train

самолёт - a plane

вертолёт - a helicopter

кора́бль - a ship

ло́дка - a boat

*** Use the preposition “на” + the prepositional case form of the name of the mean of transport: “Это машина. Я еду на машине”.

Most of the names of transport change their endings in the prepositional case, like: поезд - на поезде, машина - на машине.

Remember, that метро and такси - the two most popular means of transport in a city - never change in any case.

- Алло! Алло! Алло… Мы едем на метро в музей, поэтому я плохо слышу тебя.

Allo! Allo! Allo… We’re going to a museum by metro, that’s why I can’t hear you well.
